The Accutrend Plus meter is used to determine the amount of four parameters in the blood:
- Cholesterol;
- Triglycerides;
- Lactate.
The reflective photometric measurement is performed with test strips designed for each test parameter separately. Detailed information on the individual measurements can be found in the instructions for use supplied with the relevant test strips. The meter is suitable for professional use and self-testing.
Measuring principle
The meter reads the characteristics of the test strip batch that you are currently using from the code strip. This information is stored, so this value only needs to be read once for each container of test strips. To perform the measurement, an unused test strip is taken from the container and inserted into the meter. When the strip is inserted, an LED (light-emitting diode) illuminates the test surface of the strip from below. Before the sample is applied, the reflective properties of the test strip are determined by the light reflected from the application area (blank area). Then, a blood sample is applied to the test surface and the lid of the measuring chamber is closed.
The determination of the blood parameter in the sample is based on the enzymatic reaction of this parameter and the dye. The higher the concentration of the measured substance in the blood, the greater the amount of dye. After a certain time (depending on the measured parameter), the detector in the meter (reflective photometry) measures the intensity of the coloration of the test surface by illuminating it again from below with an LED diode. The measurement result is determined according to the strength of the reflected light signal, whereby the meter takes into account the initial measured value of the unused test strip and the information read from the batch coding sheet.
Finally, the result is displayed on the screen and is also stored in the meter's memory.
